Independents

"Its a hard, cold periphery out there and all you want to do is make an honest or dishonest buck or two, you've got nothing going except your freedom, nearly everyone wants you in their affiliation, but no one trusts you. Even the good guys use you for target practice... but then no-one said it would be easy"

- Beowulf on Life as a IND

The IND is not a affiliation as such but more a tag given to players who are not part of an affiliation. As such there is no profile or history. Heres some more information on life as a Independant, written by Beowulf one of the games most experienced IND players.

So you want to be an INDie. Well be warned its proabbly the hardest possible course of action. You will have nothing beyond your initial ship. No abilities, no money, no possession and very few friends. The periphery is not a place for loners. If you join an affilation they will probably get your humble surveyor upgraded pretty quick, but stay as an IND and you'd better like that ship because your going to be stuck with it for a long time. Sure there are affiliations out there who will call themselves your friends, they may even
offer you temporary employement... But think about it. Why do they want you to do the job rather than one of their own precious members? Is it that the jobs just so dull... maybe the cargo is a little 'illegal'. Hah more likely its some kind of suicide mission that those high and mighty powers that be don't even want to be associated with. And they rarely pay up front.

Freedom... well yes there is that. You don't have any PD breathing down your neck wanting to know what your up to. But then you don't have any support either. And the freedom only goes so far. Try taking a cruise through Darkfold or orbit a FET colony in capella. One way tickets BAMM your dead and no-one to even mourne you, let-alone go out for a bit of pay back.

So what do you do... well you make deals of course. Get in touch with the powers, the big and the small. Be prepared to do a little running around, duck and dive, a cargo here and a job there. Get in contact, as they say its good to talk and to survive on your own your going to have to. Keep your wits about you and never double cross your employers.

Ah yes its a hard cold periphery. To be an INDependant is to take the low road, the hard road, look adversity in the eye and spit. Hardly the easiest course of action certainly not the cleverest. But if you can make it you know you're the best.
