The CIA were introduced a few months after the game started when the Darkfold systems were introduced. They are active members of the Confederacy.
Years ago, back in the Inner
Empire, the Tyrant Jasil sought to overthrow and imprison his
half-brother, Samuel, the rightful Heir to the Imperial Throne.
With the help of the Chartered Affiliations Jasil seized power.
Betrayed and captured Samuel was imprisoned on the Imperial planet
Sparta. The CIA remained loyal throughout and stormed the Imperial
Palace, freeing Samuel. Then together with other loyal affiliations
they fled the Inner Empire. Fighting running battles with Imperial
forces, they came eventually to the Darkfold systems. Here Samuel
formed the Confederacy, rebuilding there colonies and fleets.
Once the Confederacy was secure the CIA reverted back to there
role as masters of espionage and information gatherers. Having
maintained there connections within imperial space they were able
to keep the Imperials on there toes performing espionage and sabotage
throughout the empire.
However the CIA needed to be much more mobile and elusive and
with there current ship the Infiltrator although fast and able
to cloak was not up to the job, they just couldn't perform the
missions they wanted. There prayers were answered when the RAT
affiliation decided to dissolve. The CIA convinced most of the
members to join the CIA. The CIA inherited the well established
colony Buccaneers Den and the designs for the Runner (4/32/17)
a ship able to cloak for twice as long as there current design.
Using the facilities at the RAT colony they redesigned the ship
maintaining its speed but increasing its cargo capacity. With
further improvements allowing the CIA to operate ships much faster
then other affiliations the CIA were able to perform devastating
covert missions deep into enemy territory. One of the most notable
missions was in 98 called "Operation Freebie". In this
Operation more than ten Imperial outposts and their corresponding
RTS links were raided and destroyed in a perfectly co-ordinated
attack. This crippling blow threw the production capability of
several key Imperial installations into chaos for months. The
operation did over 150,000mu's damage to the Imperial war machine.
As CIA resources and colony bases increased they were able to
branch out fielding an exploration core which has gathered extensive
data on the galaxy and a warfleet that supports the Rolling Thunder
fleet.
They operate in the shadows,
interacting with many differing affiliations, from traders to
members of alien races, they have contacts within the Imperium
itself, gathering information, carrying out espionage and sabotage,
and when necessary, taking direct, often violent, action against
there enemies. Havening close ties with the other Confederate
Affiliations, CNF and BHD; they take part in joint ventures and
share technology and ships.
CIA Abilities:-
1) All ships operated by the CIA have a 0.6 B.S. modifier making them faster then most.
2) Able to Recruit agents at colonies without having to visit them.
3) The CIA operate the Infiltrator 10/25/18 B.S. 1.1 (0.9 for CIA) can cloak for 6tu's
4) The CIA operate the Runner 4/40/22 B.S. 1.1 (0.9 for CIA) can cloak for 12tu's
